This September six students from the Upper Sixth Media group commuted into the heart of London, for a work experience workshop at the Channel 4 headquarters in Westminster – that included a professional interview process with the Advertising & Sponsorship department.

As the group walked through the entrance of the Channel 4 facility, we were greeted by Kim Wakes who is head of Advertising Traffic along with her colleagues Sandy, Lisa & Clare.

The day’s event took place in a vividly designed glass-walled meeting room surrounded by televisions showing upcoming programmes as well as live broadcasts.
While the mock interviews were taking place students had a chance to ask questions about the channel as well as undertaking problem-solving activities given to graduates looking to intern with the company. These included managing last minute changes to the advertising schedules to spotting errors in instructions given out to advertisers.

The students also had a chance to peek through the viewer enquiries logs which give an insight into some of the praise (and Complaints) the channel receives for every programme on a daily basis.
As the day came to an end the students were given some Channel 4 goodies along with a small tour of the building. As always the team at Channel 4 were fantastic hosts and have already said they look forward to seeing us again soon.
