Berlin 2018

In January 2018 28 Visual Art students visited Berlin for 4 days.

We stayed at Industrieplast Hostel which is just a few steps away from the East Side Gallery – formed of what was originally part of the infamous Berlin Wall.

Over the next few days we toured all around central Berlin visiting a mix of galleries, attractions and cultural institutions including the Reichstag and The Holocaust memorial.

Media students managed to record video for use in several upcoming projects and hopefully our artists found inspiration at the Urban Nation and CO galleries.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The entire group was particularly awe-struck by the impressive ( and often jaw -dropping) collection of Helmut Newton’s fashion photography on permanent display at the Photographers Gallery.

We ate at a number of diverse locations including a well known German micro-brewery and the famous Hard Rock Cafe. The boys loved the food Berlin had to offer and were determined to try out their own recipes for Currywurst when they got home.

Undoubtedly one of the big highlights was a 2 night Laser Quest tournament organised by Miss Patel – a battle royale in the former East Berlin that was exciting for all (if exhausting for Mr Bransfield and Mr Aldred)

Luckily we managed to find some time to relax – the nearby Computerspiel museum is a collection of hundreds of vintage video games and consoles and they were very pleased to play host to 28 gaming fans.

We all had a fantastic time and many of us have planned to return again as there was so much we didn’t get to see. We especially loved spending time with the people of Berlin who were so friendly and accommodating to a large group as diverse and interesting as ours.
